Report Reveals over 1,000 Pedestrians Perished In 2020

There has been a sharp rise in pedestrian deaths as a result of road accidents.

In a 2021 report on the state of road safety, pedestrians topped the list of the most deaths at 1,111 between September 2020 and 2021.

This is a 20 percent increase in the fatalities, that stood at 927 in 2020.

Motorcyclists, who have been in the spotlight for unruly road etiquette, came in second, recording 891 deaths from 738 reported in the previous year.

The report further put vehicle passengers deaths at 520, representing a 57 percent rise, from last year’s 331.

Drivers closely follow at 321, a 46 percent increase from 2020, where 211 lost their lives.

In total, over 3,221 people lost their lives to road accidents, representing a 25 percent rise from last year, where 2,560 people died in road accidents.

The number of those suffering from fatal injuries as a result of accidents rose to 3,589, a 24 percent increase from 2,902 in the previous year.
