Rwanda moves to ban all disposable plastic items from its country

BY FAITH MUTETE – Following a law that was adopted in Rwanda in 2008 ,against plastic bags it has gazette a new law which completely bans all forms of plastic bags including wrappers,containers,bottles,straws cutlery and folders.

They have given retailers a period of three months to clear the items and industries a period of two years failure to which there will be penalties and even revocation of trade license.

As an alternative, they are providing paper and bamboo to serve the same purpose as the plastic items did,only that this new items will not cause a negative effect to the environment.

Rwanda becomes the first country in East Africa to completely ban all plastic items.
