KBC staff set to strike citing Failure by the State Corporation to pay salaries

State broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation employees have issued a notice to down their tools come December 7 due to salaries and pensions not being paid.


According to an article by Business Daily, the Communication Workers Union (COWU) Secretary-General Benson Okwaro said that pensioners were greatly affected with KBC owing them sh 982 million, retirees not being paid for the past one year and five SACCOs being owed sh 50million.


Their last strike was in 2017 were the union and KBC board reached an agreement on promotions, remittance of statutory dues but it has failed to keep its end of the deal until now.


The union also wants the president to intervene and help the broadcaster from collapsing before it is too late due to the financial crisis it is experiencing due to the poor style of management.
